Installation Instructions

Choose your platform below and follow the steps to install your CookieChest banner.

Google Tag Manager

This is the recommended installation method. Using GTM ensures your consent banner loads before any other tags, which is essential for proper Consent Mode v2 functionality.

Before you begin

Make sure you have a GTM account with a container already installed on your website.

Using the GTM Template (Recommended)

  1. In GTM, go to Tags and click New
  2. Click Tag Configuration, then select Community Template Gallery
  3. Search for "CookieScript" and add it to your workspace
  4. Enter your banner script URL (we'll provide this in your welcome email)
  5. Set the default consent state as required
  6. For the trigger, select "Consent Initialization - All Pages"

This specific trigger is critical — it fires before all other tags, ensuring consent is captured first.

  7. Save and Publish your container

Alternative: Custom HTML Tag

Only use this method if you don't need Google Consent Mode functionality.

  1. Create a new tag and select Custom HTML
  2. Paste your CookieChest banner code (provided in your welcome email)
  3. Set the trigger to "DOM Ready"
  4. Save and publish

Important for Google Ads

If you're using Google Ads, make sure your Ads tags also use GTM templates (not custom HTML). Mixing implementation methods can cause Consent Mode to fail.
